Support the thru-hike
When does a route become a thru-hike?
Is it when the route is documented well enough, like with detailed directions, thousands of photographs, or a guidebook? Is it when a non-profit is founded? When a website and social media posts and a newsletter are published? When there’s a membership? When parks services, municipalities, and hikers/backpackers all declare it a thru-hike? When it is designated a National Scenic, Historic, or a National Recreational Trail?
The Santa Fe to Taos Thru-Hike is somewhere between being a route and a thru-hike. The route has existed since 2018, but to make it “official” (whatever that means) will probably require the coordination of several local, county, state, and federal agencies.
We will have more sway with these agencies if we can demonstrate there is public support for the thru-hike. So please show your support:
