Become a SF2T Member

Services, support, and information so you have a fantastic time on your hike.

Membership includes:

  • Access to the members-only resupply roughly halfway along the route, so you can:
    • Ship yourself a box or drop off your box in Santa Fe or at the resupply. Maximum box size is 12″ x 15″ x 10″. Detailed shipping instructions will be emailed to you after you purchase your membership.
    • Access to the “Wilderness Store” at the resupply. If you need gear, food, fuel, batteries, medical supplies, gear repair items, or even a fishing pole, just take what you need and Venmo for the cost of the item later.
    • Request items to be delivered to the resupply for when you arrive, like fresh food, specific gear, or personal care items. There is a $15 surcharge if we have to run an extra errand to get items for you.
    • Important note: There are no public services or stores anywhere along the route of the thru-hike between Santa Fe and Taos, with the exception of the very limited items at the Sipapu store, which is a 2-mile walk down a highway with a narrow shoulder. The SF2T resupply is by far your best option once you’ve started your hike.
  • Eligibility to use one of the ten parking passes, allowing you to park for two weeks or longer at a parking lot 1.2 miles from Santa Fe Plaza (in a safe part of town).
  • The most recent printed and Kindle/ebook editions of the guidebook. If a new edition of the guidebook or GPX file is released during your membership period, you will receive an email offering the updated version. Just respond and confirm you want the updated edition, and it will be sent to you for free as part of your membership fee.
  • The enhanced GPX file with water sources, campsites, parking locations, cell service, and other important information marked on and near the route. Can be imported into almost any navigation app. Purchase includes a video tutorial for how to import the GPX file into Gaia, and CalTopo. GPX file has been confirmed to work in AllTrails, OnX, Garmin, Strava, Gaia, and CalTopo. Updates are free during your membership period.
  • Trail support if you get in a pinch, including coordinating pickups at trailheads if necessary.
  • Email support to get all your questions answered.
  • Early notifications about alternate routes.
  • If necessary (and for an extra charge), the ability to request items be brought to certain locations along the route. Those “certain locations” would be the Santa Fe Ski Basin, Panchuela Campground/Trailhead, Santa Barbara Campground, Forest Road 442, Forest Road 439A/Trail 124, at the beginning of the Connector, along Forest Road 438, Rio Chiquito Campground, Rio Chiquito Bridge, the entrance to Drake Canyon, etc.
  • An information packet including an 11ร—17 summary map, the full six-section map set, stickers, bookmarks, and postcards.
  • Special things that will just have to be a surprise. ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • Each membership includes:
    • Resupply access for up to two hikers
    • Parking for one vehicle
    • Two shipped boxes
If your group is larger than this, please purchase additional memberships so all hikers, their cars, and their boxes are covered. For example, a group of eight hikers traveling together would need four memberships, which would also allow that group to use four parking spaces and ship up to eight boxes.
These limits help us manage the resupply fairly and keep the system working for everyone. Because the membersโ€™ resupply can only support a limited number of hikers each season, we are able to offer only a finite number of memberships each season.
  • Please read the Membership policies before purchasing your membership.

Memberships are valid for 365 days after purchase.

The Santa Fe to Taos Trail is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, so your membership is tax-deductible. All memberships come with heaping portions of gratitude and help fund ongoing improvements for SF2T and projects that help people, wildlife, trails, the forests, and the watersheds. We greatly appreciate a generous donation from the Brown-Hoover Fund, which covers the rent and most of the costs for stocking the members’ resupply (among other things)

The actual cost of delivering these services is about $214 per member, but thanks to Pam, volunteers, donations, and a tenacious commitment to making SF2T a reality, we offer memberships for $150. Each membership is good for two people.

Just picking up a box and delivering it to the resupply costs $134.80. That estimate includes three hours of volunteer time plus vehicle costs for the 64-mile round trip from Santa Fe. And that only covers getting the box to the resupply. It does not include resupply rent, outfitting costs, creating, printing, and shipping the information packets, time spent answering members’ questions, parking logistics and costs, and other many expenses. We are working on getting a few grants so we can bring this cost down, but this is where we are right now.

Another key reason memberships cost this much is that access to the resupply is limited. We cannot have too many people going in and out of the resupply on a daily basis. As a result, to preserve the use of the resupply for everyone else, we have to limit access. We are working on getting a rental near the route or possibly having resupply options at other points along the route, but for right now there’s only the resupply.

Indigenous Membership Discount

Indigenous hikers are eligible for 50% off the membership fee. Please email contact@santafetotaos.org and we will send you a coupon code.

If you live in New Mexico – especially in any of the five counties the SF2T goes through – and the cost of membership is a significant financial hardship, send us an email at contact@santafetotaos.org. We’ll figure something out.

Please consider making a donation to support our work. If you would like to donate gear to the resupply, please contact us at contact@santafetotaos.org.

Membership Policies

Membership Eligibility and Conduct

Membership in the Santa Fe to Taos Trail program is offered at our discretion. We reserve the right to refuse, suspend, or revoke membership at any time if we determine that doing so is necessary to protect the trail, the safety of participants, the integrity of our services, or the responsible use of public lands.

If a membership is revoked, the unused portion of the membership fee will be refunded on a prorated basis.

Membership may be revoked for conduct that is unsafe, illegal, abusive, or inconsistent with responsible backcountry travel or applicable land regulations. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Misuse of the resupply or other membership services
  • Harassment, abusive communication, or inappropriate conduct toward Santa Fe to Taos Trail staff, volunteers, partners, or other hikers
  • Camping or traveling in areas where camping or access is not permitted, including municipal trail systems or other restricted areas
  • Conduct that could damage the reputation, sustainability, or future access of the Santa Fe to Taos Trail route

Except in cases of serious misconduct, we will generally attempt to provide a warning and an opportunity to correct the issue before revoking a membership.

Weโ€™ve never had to revoke a membership. This policy exists simply so we can address problems if they arise and protect the trail experience for everyone.

Membership Services and Availability

Membership benefits and servicesโ€”including access to the resupply, information resources, and other member offeringsโ€”are provided as a courtesy and may change, be limited, or be discontinued at any time due to operational, safety, land management, supply, weather, or other circumstances beyond our control.

Membership fees support the ongoing development and stewardship of the Santa Fe to Taos Trail project and do not guarantee the availability of any specific service at any particular time.

Use of Resupply and Shared Resources

Use of the resupply and any shared supplies, equipment, or charging stations is at the memberโ€™s own risk. The Santa Fe to Taos Trail is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or depleted items, or for the condition or availability of supplies left for public use.

Members are expected to use the resupply responsibly and to leave it in good condition for others.

Compliance With Land Regulations

Members are solely responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable federal, state, local, and land management regulations while traveling the Santa Fe to Taos Trail route.

Route descriptions, maps, and other information provided by the Santa Fe to Taos Trail are for informational purposes only and do not grant permission to travel or camp in any location. Each hiker is responsible for verifying current land access rules, closures, and restrictions.

No Warranties

All information, services, and membership benefits associated with the Santa Fe to Taos Trail are provided โ€œas isโ€ and without guarantees or warranties of any kind, express or implied.
