Discover hidden alpine lakes, stunning vistas, and what the Milky Way looks like without light pollution at 11,000 feet. At ten miles a day, the thru-hike can be completed in about two weeks — just long enough for the perfect summer vacation. Or make it last a little longer and do the route in a series of weekends.
Everyone who places a guidebook order after February 21, 2026 will receive the 2nd edition when it is released on April 27th. The first edition is no longer available unless you become a SF2T member.

This version of the guidebook is just a little bit nicer than what’s available on Amazon.com. The paper is a little bit better, so the photographs look better. It’s not a radical difference, but some people do notice. Buying the guidebook here, directly from the thru-hike website, also helps us a lot because we get a significantly bigger “cut” from the sale than when we make a sale on Amazon. Every little bit helps! When I can, I’ll drop a little something in the shipping envelope as an extra thank you.

All orders placed after February 21, 2026 will be held until the 2nd edition is released on April 27, 2026. So if you order the guidebook now, you will receive the second edition. You will get an email notification when your guidebook has shipped. I will also send one or two email updates as the 2nd edition gets closer to publication, just so you’re in the loop about how it’s coming along.
The 2nd edition will have the improved 2026 route, which includes 50% less forest road walking and two significant short reroutes that make the route much safer. It will also have significantly expanded logistics information, sub-section maps with water and campsites marked on them, and other small improvements. Both the paperback 2nd edition and the ebook 2nd will be available on the SF2T website and on Amazon.
