Maggie and I hiked the full trail in late April. We used an axe to descend the pass at the saddle just above Lake Katherine above Santa Fe, faced a snowstorm one night and early morning just outside of Sepapu, but other than that had pretty smooth sailing. The trail is among the most beautiful I’ve hiked, and going early in the year meant we had it to ourselves! We enjoyed the time alone and were better for it when we finished. The trail took us 6 days to complete and we enjoyed an incredible breakfast in downtown Taos when the job was done!
