The SF2T was my first thru hiking experience. I picked your route because it’s short enough to complete in about a week, was within one day’s driving distance from my home in Austin TX, and aside from hitchhiking, contains all of the typical components a thru hike has to offer. It seemed like an ideal trail to use to learn how to be a thru hiker – and indeed it is. The relative isolation of the trail was a plus. I agree that the trail shouldn’t be listed on FarOut.
It was a fantastic experience. I discovered that my body is capable of marching 20 miles a day with a full pack, and that mentally, I can endure the struggles of doing this. I also learned a great deal about how to dial my gear and handle the increased challenges of that many miles of altitude change every single day.
I really like the SF2T route. The water availability made everything very manageable and the views were spectacular. Thank you so much for designing and curating this experience. And thanks for the guidebook – I would never have made it without having your step-by-step instructions.
